Macaw
sites for you to visit from Tropical
Nature Travel
Here
is a run-down on various species and habitats that we take you to visit:
- Large
macaw nests near Manu National Park in Peru (we have 20 nests within
an hour of Manu Wildlife Center, fledging season being 10 March through
15 April or so).
- A
large macaw clay lick in Manu or other part of SE Peru (You get Scarlets,
Greenwings, and Blue and Golds well at these sites in Manu and nearby).
- Pantanal
and/or Piaui, Brazil, for Hyacinth Macaws (but if you wish tall rain
forest habitat for that species, then Carajas, Brazil is the site).
- Lear's
Macaw in northern Bahia State, Brazil (and perhaps Spix's as well--it
is not far from one to the other site--both are in Bahia State, Brazil).
- Blue-throated
and Red-fronted Macaws in Bolivia (in seasonally flooded savannahs in
the case of the first one, and dry interAndean valleys for the second
one). Dry season is a bit easier for this one, as is also the case for
location 3 (hyacinths).
- You
pick up Red-bellied, Blue-headed, Military, Golden-collared, Blue-winged
(Illiger's), Severe, Red-shouldered (Noble) Macaws at the above sites,
which means that you will have:
- Scarlet
- Greenwing
