Why Are Macaws Kept As Companions?
They are very social and intelligent and can form a close bond with their owners and regard them as a mate. For this reason, unless you plan to include a Macaw as part of your family and daily activities for the REST OF HIS OR HER LIFE you should not consider having one as a companion. We highly recommend that you think seriously about the obligation you are undertaking when you decide to have one of these demanding, noisy, messy, loud birds in your home as a companion. The money that you will spend on toys vet bills food a large cage, could be used to help save these magnificent creatures in
the wild. If you truly care about these wonderful birds, you might consider helping save their real home where they belong and have lived for the past 30 million years, the rainforest of Central and South America. The treat of a lifetime would be to visit them and watch them flying free as was intended. Once you have seen them in the wild you'll never want to see one in a cage again.

Below are some rescue organizations that may be able to help you.
All the Macaws at MLF are here for the rest of their lives at the request of their previous companions, who believe that macaws do not belong in a human home, but with their own kind.
